Blues Noir History

BLUES NOIR has been performing its unique blend of original blues and roots music since the summer of 1998. Founding members Peter Corrigan and Paul Brisco met at a blues jam at the Lark Tavern in Albany in 1994. Peter was a member of Blues Alley, the host band of the jam that evening. Peter was immediately struck by the unique nature of Paul's playing. They exchanged phone numbers in anticipation of a future collaboration, and crossed paths at subsequent jams during the next few months.

Peter left Blues Alley in the spring of 1995 and performed sporadically as a solo act and as a pickup bass player with Matt McCabe of Saratoga Guitar. Paul and Peter crossed paths again at a Johnny Winter concert in 1996 and decided that they would form a band together. In the summer of 1997 they began rehearsing with John Nichols on drums and later added Matt Zlotnick on bass.

BLUES NOIR began playing out in the summer of 1998, with a series of August dates on the patio at The Metro, Saratoga Springs' most prestigious music showcase club. They have appeared at the renowned Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse, N.Y., at Nectar's and The Breakwater Café in Burlington, Vermont, at world famous Charlie O's in Montpelier, Vermont, at The Tail of the Pup in Ray Brook, N.Y., at Wallabees Jazz Bar in Glens Falls, N.Y., on the Cooperstown Blues Train of Milford N.Y., at The Galley in Westport, N.Y., at Savannah's , at The Lark Tavern, at Franklin's Tower, and at The Garden Grille  in Albany, N.Y., at The Perfect Wife in Manchester, Vermont, at the Take Me to The River Blues Concert Series in Riverfront Park in Troy, N.Y., at the Waterbury Summer Concerts in the Park Series in Waterbury, Vermont, and have been featured for three consecutive years at The Stratton Mountain Blues, Brews, and Barbeques Festival in Stratton Mountain Vermont.

BLUES NOIR released its debut CD of 14 original songs, What I Am in June of 2001 and received critical acclaim from reviewers and its fan base alike. In July they welcomed Ken Smith as their new bass player. Paul Brisco left BLUES NOIR in June of 2002 to pursue other interests. The great harmonica virtuoso Jr. Johnny joined BLUES NOIR in July of 2002.

Blues Noir released their second CD Noircissism in April 2004, and shortly after, both Ken Smith and Jr. Johnny left the band. Harmonica player Chris Hammond and bass player Chuck Brome were added to the Blues Noir 2004 lineup. Chris Hammond left the band in October 2005.  The changes in lineup have proven over the years that change is not only inevitable, but always for the better. Blues Noir plays on as a strong, original three piece Swing/Chicago/Delta Blues band, with Peter Corrigan occasionally breaking out his National Tricone guitar and Chuck Brome holding court on his standup bass with increasing frequency as our sound continues to evolve.

BLUES NOIR performs over 80% strong original material.  Peter is a prolific songwriter whose lyrics exhibits wit as well as serious emotions, and Blues Noir's musical grooves are more varied than those found in most blues bands today. As a guitarist, Peter has the ability to cover a wide range of blues styles. How many blues guitarists can strap on their Epiphone archtop electric guitar and cut a dead on T-Bone Walker/West Coast jump style blues, then strap on their 1960's vintage National Resophonic electric guitar and take you down to the Mississippi Delta with an original blues laced with searing slide guitar and stark lyrics. Peter can with an ease that is uncommon in the blues world today.  The rhythm section of Chuck Brome on bass and John Nichols on drums provide a rock solid bottom for the band's songs whether originals or covers.

BLUES NOIR'S  second CD is currently available for sale at gigs and by mail, check the CD's and Merchandisepage for details.
